Programs Offered

Jobs for Montana's Graduates consistently serves young people, persuading them to stay in school and graduate with a career plan.  Each JMG program is designed to meet the needs of the student served in schools throughout the state of Montana.  The following choices are offered in 35 high schools, 13 middle schools, 4 alternative schools and two out-of-school programs:

Senior Program

Primary Objectives ~

  • Senior students only.
  • Graduate from high school and be placed in an entry level job leading to a career and/or pursuing a postsecondary education.
  • 12 month follow-up service to monitor the success of each student.
  • Seniors are selected based upon their need for services to help them graduate of barriers to graduation and successfully transition from school to career.
  • Participants receive credit toward graduation by enrolling in JMG.
  • Classes are offered for one class period per day, five days per week, for 36 weeks.
  • Students participate in the student-led Montana Career Association Chapter, which is an organization that focuses on leadership skills, career awareness and social and civic development.
  • Participants complete 37 core competencies through instruction with the JMG curriculum model.
  • Non-graduate seniors receive assistance in graduating or obtaining a GED before the close of the follow-up period.
  • Career specialists will assist those graduating seniors throughout the follow-up period based upon their needs, including: employer marketing, job development and school and/or job placement.
  • The Electronic National Data Management System (e-NDMS) is used to track students served, record services delivered and performance outcomes.  This database supports a high level of accountability that remains consistent throughout the JMG program.
  • Program outcome goals include:  graduation (90%); positive outcomes (80%); employment (60%); full-time employment (60%); and full-time placement (80%).
Multi-Year Program

Primary Objectives~

  • The Multi-Year Program is for grades 9-12.
  • Focuses on helping students stay in school through graduation and be placed in a job leading to a career and/or pursuing a postsecondary education.
  • Career Specialists are responsible for following those senior students have graduated for twelve months after graduation.
  • Students are targeted for services based upon the number of barriers to staying in school through graduation and/or transitioning from school to career.
  • Participants receive credit toward graduation by enrolling in JMG.
  • Classes are offered for one class period, five days per week, for 36 weeks.
  • Students participate in the student-led Montana Career Association Chapter, which is an organization that focuses on leadership skills, career awareness and social and civic development.
  • Participants complete 37 core competencies through instruction with the JMG curriculum model.
  • Non-graduate seniors receive assistance in graduating from high school or completing requirements for a GED certificate before the close of the follow-up period.
  • Graduates receive assistance from the career specialist in the follow-up period based upon their needs, including: employer marketing, job development and placement, employer and school follow-up contact, etc.
  • The JAG Electronic National Data Management System (e-NDMS) is used to track the students served, services delivered, and outcomes achieved.
  • Program outcome goals include: graduation (90%); positive outcomes (80%); employment (60%); full-time employment (60%); and full-time placement (80%).
Middle School Program

Primary Objectives~

  • Assure that students stay in school and transition into high school.
  • To improve their academic performance, school behavior, attendance, participation and self-esteem.
  • Students will improve their skills in leading and being an effective member of a team.
  • Seventh and Eighth grade curriculum strands provide a conceptual framework with set standards that include personal skills, leadership, group membership, decision making, character development, healthy lifestyles, communication, negotiation and organizational skills.
  • Through the curriculum students will have the opportunity to develop healthy behaviors and lifestyles; increase their academic potential; expand their organizational and time management skills; define character development and more easily transition from middle school into high school.
  • JMG Middle School Career Specialists will focus attention on experience based learning techniques designed to encourage involvement and attachment to the community; emphasizing citizenship, volunteerism, service learning, fundraising, job shadowing and adventure based learning.
  • Students participate in the Reach Council; a student-led organization designed to familiarize students with election of officers, participation in community service projects, development of a plan of work, goal setting and entrepreneurial projects to help gain exposure to the world of work.
  • Classes are held daily with time set aside for academic remediation.
  • The Electronic National Data Management System (e-NDMS) is used to track the students served, services delivered, and outcomes achieved.
  • Program outcome goals include: high school transition rate (90%); graduation rate (90%); decline in disciplinary referrals (60%); improvement in attendance rate (50%); with overall improvement in self-esteem and grade point averages.
Out of School Program

Primary Objectives~

The highlights of the Dropout Recovery/Out-of-School Program Application include:

  • Complete requirements for a high school diploma or a GED certificate and be placed in an entry level job leading to a career and/or pursuing a postsecondary education.
  • A program for participants that have left high school and are committed to taking advantage of the Out-of-School Program until receipt of a high school diploma or GED plus 12 months of follow-up services.
  • Dropouts or candidates are selected for services based upon the number of barriers to a high school diploma or GED certificate and/or transition from school to a career.
  • Participants receive credit toward graduation by enrolling in an accredited course.
  • Classes are offered two to three times per week until program requirements are met.
  • A participant-led Professional Association Chapter is organized.
  • Participants complete the 20 core competencies using JAG's National Out-of-School Curriculum Modules.  The online modules provide Specialists with the option to blend online and activity-based classroom delivery.
  • Dropouts receive assistance in graduating from high school or completing requirements for a GED certificate.
  • Graduates receive assistance in the follow-up period based upon their needs, including: employer marketing, job development and placement, employer and graduate follow-up contact, etc.
